It’s done. I had feared that the final parting would be indistinguishable from the usual going-home-from-work scenario (see previous post), but thanks to colleagues and friends, it turned out to be a memorable and endearing experience.

I’ve always imagined the final goodbye as something grand, dramatic and memorable, like a song…but now it looks like it’s just going to be an ordinary farewell — consisting mostly of short phrases, blank stares and awkward hand gestures. The rest is just turning around, walking away, and never looking back.
